He immigrated to Montana as a young boy, and eventually achieved a Bachelors of Arts in Literature at Montana State University. He completed four years of classical atelier training with Juliette Aristides in Seattle, as well as spring and summer classical figurative kitsch painting with Odd Nerdrum in both Sweden and Norway.
